Cuando se decide venir a Islandia, existen una serie de pasos que hay que seguir para no parecer mucho más guiri de lo que ya se es. Seguramente se me olvidarán muchas cosas, así que si tenéis dudas o queréis saber algo más sobre algún tema, sólo tenéis que decirmelo. Para calcular cuantas coronas son un euro, sólo hay que multiplicar las coronas por dos y pasarían a pesetas. Luego el paso de pesetas a euros ya lo conocéis todos.
1º.- EL VIAJE: En el tema billetes no me voy a meter, más o menos si se compra con tiempo te puede salir "barato", teniendo en cuenta que los precios no bajan de los 130 euros (que yo sepa). Es indispensable el pasaporte aunque el D.N.I también te lo permiten, pero yo no me arriesgaría y si se puede ir con el pasaporte mejor. Una vez en el aeropuerto, olvídate de la maleta y vete al duty free porque va a ser la última vez que veas precios medio coherentes, es lo que hace todo el mundo... Cuando ya tengas todo, un autobús os llevará hasta Reykjavik (el aeropuerto está en otra ciudad, Keflavik) por unas 1.200 koronas (kr.), en un trayecto que dura alrededor de 45 min. Por lo de cambiar el dinero no os preocupéis que lo podéis hacer en la misma terminal del aeopuerto. Se puede optar también por un taxi, pero lo de ser taxista tiene que ser una cosa de que uno no se hace, sino que nace, y la mayoría, sean del pais que sea, intentan aprovecharse del pobre guiri.

Recuerdo que cuando llegué anochecía a eso de las 23.00. Ahora en Diciembre, las horas de luz se reducen a 6 (y llegará a ser menos), desde las 10 de la mañana hasta las 16.00. La temperatura, suele oscilar entre los 10ºC y los 15ºC en los mejores meses y, actualmente, oscila entre los 4ºC y los -5ºC, pero lo peor está aún por llegar. Como dicen los nativos, aquí no hace frío, aquí lo que se va es mal abrigado. Normalmente llueve o, como ahora, nieva, así que unos pantalones y un chaquetón que no cale el agua no serían mala idea. Después de todo, tengo que decir se soporta ¡eh!, que yo soy de Huelva y no me quejo... mucho. También es que el día antes de venir estaba pegándome un remojón en la playa, cuando podía estar entrenándome en la montaña... Así que empecé con mal pie.
3º.- ALOJAMIENTO: Lo del alojamiento se encarga la universidad una vez se ha aceptado vuestro ingreso. En mi caso, opté por las opciones piso o residencia de estudiante y me concedieron la segunda. La verdad que en ese aspecto me siento afortunado pues, Aurora Guesthouse, nuestra residencia, es como un chalet de 16 habitaciones, con 4 cuartos de baños, una cocina y un pequeño comedor, todo bastante bien. Además, el casero sólo se deja ver una vez al mes, así que estamos mejor que queremos. El precio de las habitaciones oscila entre las 35.000 kr. y las 45.000 kr. dependiendo del tamaño y demás (como en todos sitios). La residencia cuenta con servicio de lavandería, televisión y Wi-Fi, todo incluido en el precio (joe! parece que voy a comisión con el dueño). La otra opción es más barata pero nunca se sabe lo que te puede tocar. En general, yo creo que son las dos mejores opciones.
4º.- DOCUMENTOS: Una vez que ya estéis instalados y con domicilio fijo, deberéis ir a haceros el kennitala, algo así como el D.N.I para inmigrantes. Éste es indispensables para matricularos en la universidad y para abriros una cuenta en el banco, por ejemplo. También es importante, si vuestra estancia es superior a 6 meses, que vayáis a la embajada española en Islandia, que se encuentra en Kopavogur, cerca de la capital, para haceros un permiso de residencia, que también os sirve como permiso de trabajo, por si os animáis a ganaros unas pelillas.
5º.- TRANSPORTE: Evidentemente el transporte más usado por los estudiantes son los autobuses. A diferencia de lo que estamos acostumbrados son puntuales, tal cual. En la universidad nos dan una tarjeta para usarlos cada vez que queramos, por el sólo hecho de ser Erasmus, así que pedirla.
6º.- LA COMIDA: Seáis de donde seáis y por muy mal que comáis, echaréis de menos la dieta mediterránea, pero algo malo tendrían que tener los islandeses, ¿no? El mejor sitio para hacer la compra es el Bonus, algo así como el Mercadona de España. La variedad de productos no es muy alta y lo que no son productos elaborados tienen precios prohibitivos. Esto no quiere decir que no se puedan comprar, pero sí, que no se puede hacer ensaladas todos los días como ocurre en España.
Especial atención tendréis que poner con la fecha de caducidad. Aquí los productos lácteos, por ejemplo, no duran más de una semana y cuando dicen que caducan es que al dia siguiente tu leche ya es queso, no hay vuelta de hoja, y por supuesto ni se os ocurra dejarla fuera de la nevera.
7º.- EL ALCOHOL: Lo sé, todos venís aquí a estudiar y algunos ni beberán incluso, pero para todos los demás deciros que aquí hubo ley seca hasta hace unos 30 o 40 años. Consecuencias, aún hoy, el alcohol sólo se puede comprar en tiendas especializadas, por lo que se reduce el número a un total de una única tienda en la capital, VinBud. Hay que destacar, que las cervezas que os encontraréis en los supermercados y 24h. son sin alcohol o con un grado mínimo, tened cuidado... los que bebais.
8º.- LA VIDA NOCTURNA: Olvidaros de la típica Erasmus en la que se sale todos los días. Claro que podéis salir, pero lo mismo os encontráis un poco solos. Los bares cierran a eso de la una durante la semana, los jueves lo mismo se aguantan un poco más pero tampoco se trasnocha y sólo los fines de semanas se puede quedar uno en la calle hasta altas horas de la noche. Habreis observado que digo altas horas de la noche y no tempranas horas de la mañana, ¿no? Imaginaros el por qué.
El precio medio de una cerveza de 0.5 L. en un bar es de unas 650 kr. aunque éste oscila, claro está. Los chupitos varían alrededor de las 500 kr. Y, por último, siento deciros que no os podré ser de mucha ayuda en el precio de las copas. Aún no me planteé pedir precio por ésta.
A parte de los precios, cuando salgáis es importante llevar con ustedes la tarjeta del banco, más que nada porque es el único documento donde sale el kennitala y una foto tuya. En verdad, yo creo que ésto es un negocio del gobierno para que tiremos de la tarjeta cuando estemos más felices de la cuenta...
Por último, reseñar que aunque por el día son muy civilizados, por la noche los islandeses cambian. Bien por la ley seca a la que aún no se han acostumbrado o bien porque se desatan sin más, raro es el fin de semana que dos islandeses no se están dando guantazos. Ustedes lo único que tenéis que hacer es pasar de largo y, nunca, ayudar a un borracho a nada. Aunque esté en el suelo pegando sus últimas cojetadas, puede que sólo esté haciendo el tonto y cuando vuelva a abrir los ojos pensar que fuistéis ustedes los que lo tiraron, él o los amigos... Así que ya sabéis, ustedes a vuestra bola.
Bueno, pues, por ahora, yo creo que es lo más destacable que os puedo comentar. Si falta algo, que seguramente sea que sí pero mi cabeza en época de exámenes tampoco me permite pensar mucho más, me lo decís y ya iré añadiendo o contestando personalmente a cada uno. Sin más, espero que os sirva de ayuda como primer contacto.
